This locality has a traditional folk song which goes in part like this: "The sun shines in Saka while clouds hang over Suzuka, and it rains in Tsuchiyama that lies in between." Presumably, Hiroshige, when visiting Tsuchiyama, depicted spring rain with this folk song in mind. The ground and a clump of trees are wet with drizzle, which is represented by crisscross lines slanting across the entire width of the print. In the foreground, the vanguard of a daimyo procession, each retainer wearing a rain hat and a raincoat, crosses a bridge in silence. The swollen Tamura River is shown in colors that exude a spring-like atmosphere.
