The post town of Miya is the site of Atsuta Shrine. Hiroshige depicts "umaoi" (horse chase) at night as the Atsuta Shrine ritual mentioned in the title. This event was held to foretell whether the year would be one of bumper crops or poor crops, from how fast two horses ran in the chases. The print shows bonfires in front of tradesmen's houses and young women looking out of the windows. With a large torii gateway to the shrine on the right, Hiroshige gives a dynamic and detailed portrayal of a throng of happi coat-clad shrine parishioners, running after the "divine horses" in two separate groups.
