Akasaka and Goyu are only 1.7 km apart. The distance between post stations is the shortest here. Perhaps for this reason, Hiroshige, who depicted a scene in front of an inn at Goyu, shows here the inside of an inn at Akasaka in minute detail. A maid carries in a tray of food to a guest relaxing in the room to the left of a giant cycad tree in the courtyard while a masseur takes an order. Careful attention is paid even to fixtures in this picture, such as a staircase leading upstairs. In the room at the right, kitchen maids are busy applying makeup to their faces, denoting the hustle and bustle at the inn as time for the evening meal approaches.
