Maisaka was a post town on the eastern shore of Lake Hamana. Travelers on the Tokaido Hightway crossed the lake by ferry. Lake Hamana used to be separated from the sea by a strip of land, but in 1498 an opening to the sea was created by a great earthquake, which caused this piece of land to sink. The site of this depression is called "Imagire." Maisaka was the landing place for the ferryboats. In the foreground, along the shore of the lake lined with pine trees, we can see three large sails while in the middle distance several small boats are busily fishing. On the distant horizon there are two sailboats. This print depicts the great expanse of the sea.
