This is a makeshift reed-screened tea stall set up at the roadside. Palanquin bearers are taking a rest beside a woman who is making a fire to boil water in an iron kettle hanging from a branch of a big tree. One of the palanquin bearers lights his pipe from the fire while the other is dozing in the palanquin. The composition of this work is interesting in that most of the objects in the picture are pushed to the left side, but a good balance is maintained by directing the glance of a man resting on a bench to a swallow perched atop a high wooden notice-board at the right.
