Teahouses and inns line a gentle slope, and two women are soliciting customers. Many travelers from Edo chose this place as the first stop for an overnight stay. "Tokaidochu Hizakurige" by Juppensha Ikku describes Kanagawa as "lined with teahouses on one side... the seascape here is exceedingly good." This picture depicts exactly what was described in Juppensha Ikku's book. The cape projecting in the center must be Cape Honmoku and the promontory beyond it Kannonzaki Point.
